The controversy emerged after Rema featured bats in a short video promoting his upcoming extended play (EP), Ravage. Some social media users speculated that this symbol indicated his association with the secret society.

In response, Rema took to his Instagram story to clarify the situation. He explained that the use of bats in the video represented the heritage of Benin City, his place of origin. He urged his fans, known as “Day 1 Ravers,” to understand his cultural background by researching key aspects of Benin City’s heritage, including the presence of bats in the evening skies.

“Day 1 Ravers, help me educate the new Ravers that I have been on this bat shit for a long time. You all would have so much clarity if you easily Google where I am from, what the key colors of my heritage are, what flies in the skies of Benin every evening, etc,” he wrote.

“As I evolve, my execution will evolve unapologetically. Please know your artist. It is why I do interviews. And that Illuminati talk is trash. I work too hard to create art for you guys to give the glory to some diabolical shit. Dead it now. Jesus is King.”

Rema has enjoyed significant recognition in the music industry, winning numerous awards since his rise to fame.
