Tyla Beats Ayra Starr, Burna Boy to Bag Best Afrobeats Win at 2024 MTV EMAs

This historic achievement was only one of three awards Tyla claimed, establishing her as the first African artist to win three awards in a single night at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

She won the “Best Afrobeats” Award, “Best R&B” Award, and “Best African Act” Award at the 2024 MTV EMAs.

For the 30th anniversary, the MTV Europe Music Awards returned to the UK, with Manchester’s Co-op Live serving as the official venue for this global music celebration on Sunday, 10 November.

Reacting to her win, Tyla quoted a tweet from the organisers and expressed gratitude to her fans, posting, “Thank you Tygers, once again! 🐅💕 Y’all are in-sane!”

The Live News also notes that Tyla was a “surprising miss” in the 2025 Grammy nominations announced on Friday.

Tyla’s debut single, Water, launched her to international stardom, earning her numerous accolades, including the inaugural Grammy Award for “Best African Music Performance” in February 2024.
