The trial of Afrobeat Musician, Seun Kuti, faced yet another setback due to the absence of Chief Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun from the Yaba Magistrate’s Court.
Due to Magistrate Olatunbosun being on administrative leave, the registrar, Mr. Babalola, adjourned the case until September 27, 2023, for the ongoing proceedings.
Seun Kuti was previously arraigned by the Lagos State Police Command on May 16, 2023, for allegedly assaulting a police officer, an offense under Section 356 of the Nigerian Criminal Code Act.

On May 24, Magistrate Olatunbosun ruled that the police could not act as both the complainant and the prosecutor. She, therefore, requested the DPP’s advice to continue the prosecution.
She said, “I need the advice of the DPP to know whether he should be prosecuted or not.”
Consequently, the case was adjourned until July 3, 2023, awaiting the DPP’s advice.
However, due to Magistrate Olatunbosun’s absence, the case was further adjourned today, causing further delay in the proceedings.
