With Jose Peseiro’s contract set to expire in June 2023, the NFF is considering the appointment of a new head coach to lead the Nigerian national football team and propel the Super Eagles to greater success.
Here are four potential candidates who could take on the role:
1. Ndubusi Egbo
Ndubusi Egbo, a Nigerian coach, achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first African coach to lead a European team to a league title and Champions League qualification. He achieved this feat with Albania’s KF Tirana during their centenary year. Egbo has also expressed his interest in coaching the Super Eagles.

2. Adrian Mutu
Adrian Mutu, a former Romanian professional footballer who played as a striker, is in discussions with the NFF to potentially replace Peseiro as the head coach of the Super Eagles. Mutu has coaching experience with Romanian club FC Argeș Pitești and could bring his expertise to the Nigerian national team.
3. Sunday Oliseh
Sunday Oliseh, a former Nigerian footballer who excelled as a midfielder, has valuable coaching experience with Belgian club Sint-Truiden and Nigerian club Fortuna Sittard. Oliseh has previously coached the Super Eagles and expressed his desire to lead the team again, showcasing his passion for Nigerian football.

4. Unnamed Coaches
The NFF has received several applications from coaches eager to replace Peseiro as the head coach of the Super Eagles. Among the applicants, five coaches are reportedly considered by the NFF for the prestigious role. While their identities remain undisclosed, their interest demonstrates a strong pool of talent willing to contribute to the success of the Nigerian national team.
