Reiss Nelson scored potentially the biggest goal since the Emirates Stadium opened with his winner for Arsenal in their dramatic win over Bournemouth in March.
Per Mertesacker, Arsenal’s academy manager confirmed this while speaking to reporters.
He went on to thank Nelson for the memorable moment, saying, “he created that moment, so thank you Reiss for that.”
Currently, Arsenal sits at the top of the Premier League table, and if they win all their remaining games, they will lift the trophy for the first time in 19 years.
However, they face a tough challenge against West Ham after a stunning draw with Liverpool, where Aaron Ramsdale‘s heroics were noted as a key moment in the title race.
Although Nelson has had a peripheral role this season, his brilliant strike against Bournemouth helped Arsenal fight back from a 2-0 deficit and clinch a 3-2 win, sending the Emirates into a frenzy.

Mertesacker agrees that it could be the biggest goal the stadium has ever seen, saying, “I was hugging Liam Brady and he was kind of Hale End again. It was very emotional.”
There are moments in title races that are never forgotten, and for Arsenal fans, Nelson’s goal will always hold a special place in their hearts.
