In the lead-up to the January transfer window, Arsenal is considering a significant move to secure the services of Ivan Toney from Brentford.
The Gunners may have to fork out as much as £80 million ($97 million) for this acquisition, necessitating the sale of some players to adhere to Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.
Toney, who is currently serving a ban from football until January 16 due to a breach of the FA’s betting rules, has piqued Arsenal’s interest, as The Times reported. Chelsea is also keeping a close eye on the English international, whose contract with Brentford expires at the conclusion of the upcoming season.
Brentford, however, appears reluctant to part ways with Toney and has consequently assigned a substantial valuation to the striker. His impressive track record of 20 league goals last season places him among the top scorers, trailing only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.
To comply with FFP regulations after potentially securing Toney’s services, Arsenal may need to offload some players. Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah, and Reiss Nelson are among the names that could be made available for transfer to generate the necessary funds.
Arsenal’s next fixture will see them face off against Brentford in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. This encounter adds intrigue to the ongoing transfer saga surrounding Ivan Toney’s potential move to the Gunners.
