Arsenal’s hopes of winning the 2022/2023 Premier League title are no longer entirely in their control after an exciting 3-3 draw with Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night.
The game started disastrously for the Gunners as Southampton took the lead just 27 seconds into the match. Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale’s attempt to build from the back went wrong as he inexplicably passed the ball to Southampton’s Carlos Alcaraz, who took advantage of the error to score.
Thirteen minutes later, former Arsenal player Theo Walcott doubled Southampton’s lead with a low shot. Walcott refrained from celebrating against his old team.
Despite the setback, Arsenal fought back and dominated play in search of a comeback. Gabriel Martinelli scored in the 20th minute after Bukayo Saka squared a cross into the area. The half ended with Southampton leading 2-1.

Southampton extended their lead in the second half when Duje Caleta-Car headed in a goal with less than 25 minutes remaining. Arsenal pushed hard for a comeback and were rewarded late in the game when captain Martin Odegaard scored in the 88th minute.
Minutes later, Bukayo Saka equalized for Arsenal, securing a draw for Mikel Arteta’s side.
The draw marks Arsenal’s third consecutive draw in the Premier League and means that their fate in the title race no longer rests solely in their hands. Despite still leading the standings five points ahead of Manchester City, Arsenal has played two more matches than their rivals.
The pressure now mounts for Arsenal as they prepare for a title-deciding clash against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium next week. A win in that match would be crucial for Arsenal’s title hopes.
Fans have now taken to social media to share their thoughts on the match. While some have expressed disappointment, a few hopefuls believe Arsenal still have a chance to win the title.
