Emefiele was picked up by EFCC operatives on Thursday night, and as soon as he was released by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Emefiele was taken into custody by EFCC operatives immediately after his release and is currently undergoing interrogation at the National Headquarters of the anti-graft agency in Jabi, Abuja.
The EFCC is investigating Emefiele for alleged impropriety during his tenure as the head of the apex bank. According to sources, he is being probed for possible misappropriation of funds and other irregularities during his time as CBN governor.

“Yes, Emefiele is currently in our (EFCC) custody; he was arrested last night less than an hour after the DSS freed him. He’s currently being interrogated at the Headquarters, as he’s being investigated for alleged misappropriation of funds amongst other things during his term as CBN governor,” confirmed a source.
Fresh charges may be filed against Mr Emefiele by the EFCC.
