Erling Haaland, the striker for Manchester City, is reportedly set to receive a new contract from the club that will no longer include his £150m release clause.
The 22-year-old Norwegian joined City in the summer for £51.2million from Borussia Dortmund, with a clause in his contract allowing him to leave the Etihad for £150m in the summer of 2024 if a club was willing to pay the amount, and he wanted a move.
New Contract and Removal of Release Clause
According to The Athletic, the release clause was specifically linked to the future of Pep Guardiola.
With the manager committing himself to the club until 2025 back in November, City is preparing a new contract for the player, which will have the £150m release clause removed.

Exact Terms of the New Contract Unknown
It is unclear whether a similar release clause could kick in later during Haaland’s stint with City, as the exact terms of his contract are not yet known.
His current deal runs until the summer of 2027, and the club is reportedly looking to extend his stay, with Haaland also open to fresh talks.
Haaland has been linked with Real Madrid, as he harbors an ambition to join the Spanish giants at some point in his career.
However, after scoring 47 goals in 40 matches across all competitions, he has no intention of leaving the Etihad, at least in the near future.
Haaland Focused on Champions League Quarterfinals
Haaland and his team have a crucial job to do against Bayern Munich in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal on Wednesday evening at the Allianz Arena.
City will be looking to progress to the semifinals, with Haaland’s contribution crucial to their chances.
