For the first time since the news of Lionel Messi’s departure from PSG emerged, Kylian Mbappe has shared his thoughts on the Argentine maestro’s exit.
The French superstar conveyed his admiration for Messi’s exceptional talent and expressed his disappointment at his departure.
In his words, as quoted by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Mbappe stated, “He’s one of the greatest players in the history of football. It’s never good news when someone like Messi leaves. I don’t quite understand why so many people were so relieved that he was gone. He didn’t get the respect he deserved in France.”
When Lionel Messi joined forces with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar Jr. at PSG in the summer of 2021, there was tremendous excitement among football enthusiasts worldwide. The trio’s collaboration held the promise of dominance and silverware for the Parisians.

However, despite clinching two consecutive Ligue 1 titles together, they fell short of securing PSG’s maiden UEFA Champions League triumph.
During his time at PSG, Messi contributed 32 goals and 35 assists in 71 appearances for the French giants. Playing alongside Mbappe on 67 occasions in the last two seasons, the duo combined effectively to score 34 goals.
However, despite their impressive individual and collective performances, the coveted Champions League trophy eluded them.
