Manchester United’s injury concerns have taken a turn for the worse in the lead-up to their impending showdown with Arsenal.
The setback comes as Raphael Varane faces a sidelining period “for a few weeks.”
The setback wrenches Man Utd’s plans as they gear up to face Arsenal. The French center-back, Varane, was forced to make way for Victor Lindelof at halftime during the recent 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest. His discomfort prompted Varane’s exit from the game, and with a crucial match against Arsenal on the horizon, coach Erik ten Hag opted to prioritize his player’s well-being and withdrew him from the game.

However, this decision couldn’t prevent Varane from becoming the latest addition to Manchester United’s growing injury list.
Old Trafford‘s treatment room is already occupied by defenders Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. In addition to Varane, several other players, including Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Hojlund, and Mason Mount, are also unavailable due to their respective injuries. As a result, these players will be missing from the lineup for the anticipated Emirates Stadium clash against Arsenal on Sunday.
In an official statement released by the club, Manchester United confirmed the extent of Varane’s injury: “Raphael Varane will be missing from the team when Manchester United face Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday due to injury. The France international came off at half-time in our 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Saturday due to the complaint, which is expected to keep him out for a few weeks.”

The upcoming international break might relieve Erik ten Hag as he strives to nurse his injured players back to full fitness before the team’s encounter with Brighton on September 16.
Despite the challenges posed by Varane’s absence, this situation presents an opportunity for Harry Maguire to make an impression on the manager, especially after his potential transfer to West Ham fell through.
