The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command has arrested Tajudeen Baruwa, president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
The NURTW president was arrested on charges of alleged homicide and criminal conspiracy.
Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT police, confirmed this development on Friday.
“He was arrested along with 21 others for alleged criminal conspiracy, public disobedience, and culpable homicide,” she explained. “All will be arraigned in court after the investigation.”
The arrests followed a violent clash between two union factions in Abuja on Tuesday, resulting in one fatality and numerous injuries.
Baruwa had accused former NURTW leaders of unauthorized occupation of the union’s national secretariat and publicly criticized Najeem Yasin, the former union president, for alleged clandestine meetings with other former union leaders.
The NURTW president also raised concerns about the police allegedly taking sides with the Lagos Park Management Committee regarding the ongoing dispute.
