The Super Falcons, Nigeria’s national women’s football team, have unveiled their squad for the upcoming Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Head coach Randy Waldrum announced on Friday, and it includes some notable names in women’s football.
One of the key players in the squad is Onome Ebi, who recently celebrated her 40th birthday. Ebi is set to make history as the oldest player to participate in the Women’s World Cup. This will be her sixth appearance in the prestigious tournament, a remarkable achievement for the veteran defender.

Another exciting addition to the team is Desire Oparanozie, who returns to the squad after being left out following an incident during the 2019 World Cup in France.
Joining Ebi and Oparanozie are two talented players based in Europe. Asisat Oshoala, who plays for Barcelona, and Rasheedat Ajibade from Atletico Madrid will bring their skills and experience to the Nigerian team.
The roster also features prominent players such as Asisat Oshoala from Barcelona and Rasheedat Ajibade from Atletico Madrid. Additionally, Chiamaka Nnadozie, the first-choice goalkeeper, along with defenders Osinachi Ohale and Oluwatosin Demehin, midfielders Halimatu Ayinde and Christy Ucheibe, and forward Esther Okoronkwo complete the lineup.

Nigeria’s journey in the tournament will begin with matches against Canada, Australia (the co-host nation), and the Republic of Ireland. The team is eager to showcase their skills and compete against top-notch opponents in this historic edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, which sees the participation of 32 teams – the same number as the men’s finals in Qatar last year.
The Super Falcons, who came tantalizingly close to reaching the semi-finals in 1999 but were ultimately defeated by Brazil in extra time, have their sights set on success.
To prepare for the tournament, they will embark on a final 15-day training camp in Australia, starting on July 4, after arriving there.
