No fewer than five lives have been lost in various communities within Adamawa state due to the destructive force of flooding.
This is according to the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA).
Suleiman Muhammad, the Executive Secretary of ADSEMA, made this grim announcement during a recent interview held in the state’s capital, Yola. The flooding has left a trail of destruction, with numerous homes and critical infrastructure swept away in the local government areas (LGAs) of Fufore, Yola South, and Mubi South.
ADSEMA has been actively conducting extensive flood awareness campaigns across all 21 LGAs in the state. Their plea to residents residing in high-risk zones is to consider relocating to safer areas.
Muhammad underscored the agency’s unwavering commitment to efficiently managing emergencies within the state.
“Residents of flood-prone areas are advised to adhere to the instructions given by experts. They have to be very vigilant,” he said.
“More rain will fall, we cannot say that it is over yet. People must be safety conscious.”
