In a surprising turn of events, former Arsenal “superstar” Alexis Sanchez has reportedly reached out to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, expressing his desire to return to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Alexis Sanchez, who initially joined Arsenal in 2014, quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s most exceptional players during his time at the Emirates.
However, his decision to force a move to Manchester United in January 2018 left a bitter taste in the mouths of Gunners fans. Since then, Sanchez’s performance on the pitch has not quite lived up to the heights he once reached.
Nevertheless, according to a Chilean publication, the 34-year-old is longing for a fresh start at Arsenal and has personally contacted Mikel Arteta to discuss the possibility of a reunion.
Currently plying his trade in France for Marseille, Alexis Sanchez has had a remarkable season, earning praise from Ligue 1’s official website, which labeled him a “superstar.”
With 18 goals and three assists in all competitions, Sanchez’s recent performances have sparked interest from various clubs. However, the Chilean forward, whose contract enters its final year, reportedly views a return to Arsenal as an appealing prospect.
Despite Arteta’s admiration for Sanchez, as they were former teammates, it seems the Arsenal manager has closed the door on the possibility of a reunion this summer.
Sanchez’s hopes of joining Arsenal for another shot at glory have been quashed, according to the report.
While the decision may come as a disappointment to the Chilean, Arteta and his team are likely focused on other targets as they aim to bolster their squad for the upcoming season and mount a title challenge.
