In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through Edo State, an 84-year-old man, identified as Gabriel Uhuwa, was apprehended by the Edo State Police Command for reportedly murdering his 75-year-old wife, following her refusal to engage in sexual activity with him.
The police command confirmed the arrest of Uhuwa during a press briefing on Wednesday. This event occurred amidst the parade of 198 suspects apprehended for various criminal offenses, including armed robbery, kidnapping, unlawful possession of firearms, murder, and cultism, among other charges.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, Uhuwa is accused of taking his spouse’s life due to her consistent denial of his sexual advances. Nwabuzor revealed that the elderly man had been grappling with ongoing issues concerning his wife’s resistance to his requests for intimacy.
Nwabuzor further shared that Uhuwa appeared unrepentant, believing that his actions were a justifiable solution to his predicament.

Speaking to reporters, Uhuwa said, “My wife was not listening to me. Any time I asked her to come and sleep with me, she always declined. We have seven children together, five boys and two girls.” The suspect acknowledged that he had sought assistance from his children, recounting that one of their daughters had attempted to reason with his wife, yet her pleas were in vain.
“I reported the matter to my family and her family members but she failed to listen to them and continued her old ways and I was hearing information that pastors were sleeping with her,” Uhuwa lamented.
“Each time I demanded sex, either she would tell me she was sick or she had an ulcer, yet I was hearing a rumor that she was sleeping with other men, and I don’t have money to carry prostitutes.”

Compounding his distress, Uhuwa recounted that following his complaint, his children turned against him, severing financial support and communication. He alleged that his wife had poisoned their minds against him.
In a chilling revelation, Uhuwa confessed to the gruesome act. “So, on Saturday last week in the afternoon in the house, I picked up a cutlass and macheted her. I did it in anger because she was not obeying me and I want people to know of it,” he admitted.
However, amidst the remorseless narrative, Uhuwa disclosed that he deeply regretted his actions, realizing the gravity of his crime only after the deed was done.
