Muhuyi Magaji, the reinstated chairman of the Kano Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), has declared that the agency will revisit the investigation into the alleged corruption involving Abdullahi Ganduje, the former governor of Kano state.
Magaji was dismissed by Ganduje in 2022 over accusations of office abuse. However, on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, the new governor of Kano, Abba Yusuf, granted Magaji’s reinstatement as PCACC chairman.
In October 2018, a video released by Daily Nigerian, an online newspaper, captured footage of Ganduje purportedly accepting bundles of dollars and discreetly stashing them within his traditional flowing white attire known as ‘babanriga.’
The newspaper alleged the governor had solicited $5 million from the contractors who filmed the incriminating video.

During an appearance on a program on DailyTrust TV, Magaji explained that the commission had been unable to investigate the case since 2018 due to Ganduje’s immunity as the sitting governor.
When asked whether he would proceed with the investigation into Ganduje’s actions, Magaji responded, “When I said I will investigate Ganduje’s dollar case, he was the incumbent governor…I was working under him. Let alone now that he is a former governor?”
He continued, “So I meant every word I said. At that time, I told you we will open an investigation and we are investigating. But there are certain limitations because any incumbent governor, deputy governor, president, or vice president has immunity under the Nigerian constitution. So there was a limit to what we could do. Now, the limit is no more. The commission will do what is necessary.”
