Arsenal Football Club is making ambitious moves in the transfer market this summer as they seek to revamp their midfield under the guidance of manager Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners have set their sights on securing the services of Romeo Lavia and Declan Rice to create a formidable midfield lineup for the upcoming season.
Arsenal has already submitted a bid for Declan Rice, but it was rejected by West Ham United, the player’s current club. However, the Gunners remain undeterred and are determined to reach an agreement for the highly regarded midfielder.
The Independent has reported that Arsenal is progressing in their negotiations to sign Romeo Lavia, a rising star from Southampton, who has also attracted interest from other top clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United. Nevertheless, Arsenal appears to be the frontrunner in securing Lavia’s services.
While Arsenal is keen on pursuing Moises Caicedo from Brighton, the potential transfer fee of over £100 million ($128.2m) may be a deterrent. Consequently, it is unlikely that Arsenal will be able to afford both Rice, who could cost around £90 million, and Caicedo. However, the Gunners are more inclined towards pursuing Romeo Lavia, as he comes with a more affordable price tag of approximately £50 million ($64m), according to Southampton’s valuation.
Declan Rice has established himself as one of the premier midfielders in the world during his time at West Ham United. His skill set and performances have garnered significant attention, making him a highly sought-after target for Arsenal.
On the other hand, Romeo Lavia, at just 19 years old, represents a promising prospect who has the potential to develop further under Arteta’s tutelage. Arsenal’s interest in Chelsea’s Kai Havertz also indicates their intention to completely transform their squad after finishing second in the previous season.
Arsenal is expected to continue their squad overhaul in the upcoming transfer window. Sources suggest that a deal for Declan Rice is likely to be completed, although it remains to be seen whether it will be finalized in time for their first pre-season friendly against Nurnberg on July 13.
