In a tragic turn of events, a man has confessed to the killing of his wife, who had been missing for over two and a half months in western France.
The revelation led investigators to discover the body of Karine Esquivillon, a 54-year-old mother-of-five. The incident unfolded in the Pays de la Loire region, sending shockwaves through the community.
On March 27, Karine Esquivillon vanished without a trace from her residence in western France. Her sudden disappearance left her family and friends deeply concerned. Two weeks later, the mayor of the commune stumbled upon Esquivillon’s cell phone, lacking a SIM card but containing a photo of one of her daughters. The discovery was made in a ditch near a car park, further heightening apprehensions about her whereabouts.

Authorities appealed for witnesses to aid in the investigation, while Karine Esquivillon’s husband, Michel Pialle, claimed that she had left of her own volition. However, some family members expressed skepticism regarding this assertion. Pialle’s anxiety grew as the weeks passed, and suspicions surrounding his involvement intensified.
During a police search of the family home, Michel Pialle was taken into custody on Wednesday. Investigators also seized the couple’s two vehicles during the ongoing probe. He eventually told investigators he had killed his wife accidentally while handling a gun, a source close to the investigation said, confirming reports made by the daily Le Parisien.

“Mr Pialle made the choice to explain himself,” said his lawyer Antoine Ory in a text message to AFP. Pialle admitted the facts and “indicated to investigators where to find her body,” public prosecutor Emmanuelle Lepissier told AFP in a text message.
The remains were found in a forested area several kilometers from the couple’s residence.
Michel Pialle, aged 50, is expected to appear before the La-Roche-sur-Yon court on Friday morning to face the consequences of his actions.
