Arsenal are keeping the option open for a potential move for Moises Caicedo, despite Chelsea’s ongoing negotiations with Brighton over the player.
The Ecuador international has already agreed to personal terms with Chelsea, but the stumbling block has been Brighton’s valuation of £100 million.
The Gunners recently finalized a deal to sign Declan Rice for a total of £105 million, including add-ons. This transfer has played a significant role in determining Brighton’s valuation of Caicedo. While Arsenal maintains an interest in the 21-year-old midfielder, it is understood that a major outgoing transfer for a substantial fee would need to occur for any changes to happen.
Thomas Partey, linked with a departure from Arsenal, may face increased competition following Rice’s arrival. Interest from clubs in Europe and the Middle East could provide Partey with more guaranteed playing time and potentially significant wage increases, particularly from Saudi Arabia.
TheLiveNews has learned that Arsenal would demand a substantial fee to part ways with Partey. The Gunners acquired the Ghanaian midfielder for £45 million in 2020 by triggering the release clause in his contract with Atletico Madrid. Therefore, receiving a fee close to what they paid for the 30-year-old would provide a significant financial boost for the club.
Nevertheless, the £100 million valuation placed on Caicedo by Brighton and Chelsea would still pose a considerable challenge for Arsenal. The Gunners had a £70 million bid rejected in January, and while Chelsea’s bid this summer was closer to half of Brighton’s valuation, it was also swiftly turned down. At present, Arsenal has not made a fresh approach for the player.
The transfer window remains dynamic for Arsenal, and the potential for further signings, such as Jurrien Timber, Rice, and Kai Havertz, is a genuine possibility. However, these signings are contingent upon the club making significant outgoing transfers.
