The Bees are optimistic about securing the striker’s commitment with a new contract before the January transfer window opens.
Toney, 27, is currently serving an eight-month suspension due to FA gambling regulations breach and is slated to make his return on January 16. Despite this setback, clubs remain eager to secure his services after his remarkable goal-scoring record of 35 goals for Brentford over the last two seasons.
Arsenal, contending with injuries in their attacking lineup, has reignited pursuit of Toney for the upcoming winter transfer window. Despite Nicolas Jackson‘s recent successes and Cole Palmer‘s impact, Chelsea is also eyeing the striker to bolster their forward options. Meanwhile, Tottenham, grappling with injury woes and Harry Kane‘s departure, seeks a suitable partner for Son Heung-min, making Toney an attractive prospect.
However, Brentford has thrown a surprise in the race for Toney’s signature. According to TalkSPORT reports, the club is confident in fending off other suitors. They anticipate Toney’s willingness to commit to a new contract, raising the potential cost for interested clubs well above the already substantial £100 million valuation.
Manager Thomas Frank expressed his desire to retain Toney earlier this season, highlighting the striker’s skill set and positive attitude towards staying at the club. Frank stated, “He is happy at the club, I want him to stay. Ivan is happy to stay.”
“What happens in the future is impossible to guess about… Ivan’s skillset in finishing, composure in those moments, link-up play, presence, character… He is a very good package. It’s not for me to put a price tag on him; it is down to the club. I’m happy with him, and I hope he plays here forever.”
