Chelsea is set to wrap up their pre-season schedule with a friendly match against Borussia Dortmund at Soldier Field in Chicago.
The Blues have had an impressive pre-season campaign, securing the Premier League Summer Series title in the United States. With seven points from three games against Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United, and Fulham, they started strong by crushing League Two team Wrexham 5-0 in their opening pre-season friendly.
In their last match, Chelsea faced a tough challenge against Fulham but managed to secure a 2-0 victory with goals from Thiago Silva and their newly acquired talent, Christopher Nkunku, in the first half. The win put them at the top of the table, displacing Aston Villa and setting a positive tone as they approach the new season.
With their eyes firmly set on success, Chelsea aims to finish their pre-season flawlessly by securing a positive result against Dortmund before they shift their focus to their first Premier League game of the new season, a home match against Liverpool on August 13.

Borussia Dortmund’s Unbeaten Preseason Record
On the other hand, Borussia Dortmund is also riding high with an unblemished pre-season record. They have won each of their first five pre-season matches, including victories against lower-tier German teams like Westfalia Rhynern, Rot-Weiss Oberhausen, and Rot-Weiss Erfurt. In addition to these impressive wins, they showcased their attacking prowess with a resounding 6-0 victory over American second-tier team San Diego Loyal.
Dortmund’s true test came in their first challenging, friendly fixture, where they faced Manchester United and came out victorious with a 3-2 win. Despite their flawless run, Dortmund’s manager, Edin Terzic, believes there is still room for growth as they approach the upcoming 2023-24 season. Their first official match of the season will be against Schott Mainz in the DFB-Pokal first-round match on August 12.
Seeking Redemption
Thursday’s match holds special significance for Dortmund as they faced Chelsea earlier this year in the Champions League last 16. Unfortunately, they couldn’t progress further, experiencing a 1-0 home triumph in Germany followed by a 2-0 setback at Stamford Bridge. Eager to seek redemption, Dortmund will be motivated to secure a win against Chelsea in this friendly encounter before they gear up for their final pre-season fixture against Ajax at home on Sunday.
