China, on Thursday, criticized President Joe Biden‘s description of Xi Jinping as a dictator as “extremely wrong” following the conclusion of a summit in California between the two leaders.
Through foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, the Chinese government strongly opposed Biden’s remarks, denouncing them as “extremely wrong” and an act of “irresponsible political manipulation.”
Mao Ning said: “This kind of speech is extremely wrong and is irresponsible political manipulation. China firmly opposes it.” “I need to point out that there are always some people with ulterior motives attempting to sow discord and wreck China-US relations, and this too will not succeed,” she added.

When asked to clarify whom she was referring to, Mao simply said, “I think whoever is trying to undermine and sow discord between China and the United States knows it.”
Despite agreeing on restoring military communications and taking steps to curb the production of fentanyl, the opioid responsible for a significant crisis in the US, tensions flared when Biden referred to Xi Jinping as a “dictator” during a post-summit briefing. This characterization had previously sparked outrage from Beijing earlier in the year.
In Biden’s words, “Well look he is, I mean he’s a dictator in the sense that he’s a guy who’s running a country, a Communist country, that’s based on a form of government totally different than ours.”
