Donald Trump has claimed a historic second term, securing his return to the White House as the 47th president of the United States.
His victory over Democratic rival Kamala Harris came after decisive wins in key battleground states.
With the final count in, Trump reached the crucial 270 Electoral College votes by clinching Wisconsin and North Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. Although counting continues in Michigan, Arizona, and Nevada, the results are inconsequential to the outcome.
Trump celebrated his win alongside his family and running mate JD Vance, vowing to bring about a “golden age for America” and hailing his supporters as part of “the greatest political movement of all time.” Republicans are also expected to regain control of the Senate, ending their minority status held since 2021.
World leaders have begun to send their congratulations to Trump. Meanwhile, Kamala Harris has yet to publicly state her defeat, canceling her anticipated appearance at Howard University in Washington, DC, where supporters had gathered in hopes of a different outcome.
