Edo State’s Deputy Governor, Phillip Shuaibu, has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, requesting an injunction to halt the initiation of an impeachment process against him.
The suit, with the reference number FHC/ABJ/CS/1027/2023, names the Inspector General of Police, State Security Service, Governor of Edo State, Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, and Chief Judge of Edo State as the defendants.
Shuaibu is seeking an interlocutory injunction to prevent the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Defendants/Respondents or their agents from commencing the impeachment process against him.
Furthermore, he is appealing to the court to restrain the Governor of the state or any person acting on his behalf from harassing and obstructing him in the execution of his duties as the Deputy Governor.

He also seeks “An order of interlocutory injunction restraining the third, fourth, and fifth Defendants/Respondents, whether by themselves or their agents or persons acting for and on their behalf, from initiating.”
Shaibu, however, filed a motion exparte and motion on notice on the same reliefs. On the motion exparte, he filed an interim injunction, while on the motion on notice, he sought an interlocutory injunction.
Previously, there were reports of a crisis between Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, but Shuaibu has repeatedly dismissed such claims.
