The APC National Executive Committee (NEC) has officially appointed Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the former Governor of Kano State, as the new National Chairman of the party.
Alongside him, Senator Ajibola Basiru, spokesperson for the ninth Senate, was also ratified as the Secretary. They will replace the immediate past National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and former National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore.
The decision to appoint Ganduje and Basiru was swiftly taken just an hour after President Bola Tinubu arrived at the Transcorp Hilton, the venue of the NEC meeting on Thursday.
The President’s arrival was met with tight security measures, with stern-looking operatives suspected to be from the Department of State Services surrounding him.
The announcement of their appointments triggered immense jubilation among supporters of Ganduje and Basiru, momentarily disrupting the program.
Several dignitaries attended the NEC meeting, including Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, former Governor of Osun State and pioneer chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande, acting National Chairman of the party, Senator Abubakar Kyari, as well as Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje and Senator Ajibola Basiru.
