Netizens are expressing their strong reactions to a viral video featuring the Lagos State First Lady, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, attributing the tragic death of Dr. Vwaere Diaso in an elevator accident at the General Hospital Odan, Lagos Island, to an “arrow fired into the health family.”
According to reports, Dr. Diaso was in the elevator on her way to receive food from a dispatch rider when the incident occurred on Tuesday. She was immediately rushed to the hospital’s emergency ward, where she was later confirmed to have passed away.
In response to the incident, her colleagues protested at the hospital on Wednesday, effectively shutting down activities there. Additionally, the Nigerian Medical Association, Lagos State Chapter Chairman, Dr. Benjamin Olowojebutu, and Secretary, Ismail Ajibowo, directed all doctors working in the three government hospitals on Lagos Island to commence an indefinite strike in solidarity.

In the viral video, Mrs. Sanwo-Olu addressed the protesters, linking the tragedy to a helicopter accident that occurred in the state on the same day. She expressed her disbelief, saying, “An arrow has been fired into the health family. The first of August is a day I will never forget. The same day a helicopter crashed, the same day a lift dropped down. How? How? How?”
However, her comments have sparked criticism from aggrieved Twitter users, who attribute the unfortunate incident to poor elevator maintenance by the hospital management rather than any spiritual attack. One user, @ceemancy, emphasized the importance of maintenance, stating, “Anything that can go wrong will go wrong and at the worst possible time….Murphy’s law. That’s why maintenance is very important.” This sentiment was echoed by @deesick, who pointed out, “How? Negligence, nonchalance, carelessness. That’s how.”

Another user, @DieuEmeka, squarely blamed the government for Dr. Diaso’s death, stating, “The how is simple nah. The government, which her husband heads, failed to maintain the lift. There was no arrow. It was simply a result of corruption and irresponsibility on the part of the government. That is what, why, and how.”
The Lagos State Government has responded to the incident by forming an inquiry panel to investigate the elevator accident’s circumstances. They have also pledged to take appropriate action against anyone found responsible.
