In an official statement released Wednesday, Taofiq Adebayo, the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), confirmed the unfortunate incident. The crash involved six private vehicles, including a heavily loaded ‘MAC’ truck bearing the license plate T-1501 LA.
Adebayo stated, “Emergency responders, in collaboration with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, swiftly responded to a fatal accident scene on Eko Bridge, specifically towards the Alaka area of the state.”
He further revealed that Akinde Olusola ‘Zebra,’ an operative from the LASTMA Zone 3 Iponri, headed the rescue team and confirmed that the accident had resulted in two fatalities, with five other individuals sustaining serious injuries.

Preliminary investigations unveiled that the loaded ‘MAC’ truck, while travelling at high speed, collided with five other private vehicles, including a commercial mini-bus, due to brake failure.
The injured victims, totalling five, and the two deceased individuals, were promptly transported to a nearby general hospital via an ambulance from the LASEMA Response Unit.
“The vehicles involved in the fatal accident were identified as follows: a fully loaded truck (T-150 IL), a Lexus Jeep (LSP 795 EW), a Toyota Camry (AKD 606 HH), a Toyota (LND 217 GX), a mini-bus (FKJ 77 YG), and (LSR 952 HZ),” Adebayo revealed.
Bolaji Oreagba, the General Manager of LASTMA, took the opportunity to advise motorists, especially truck drivers, to ensure their vehicles are in optimal condition before embarking on journeys across the state. He emphasized the agency’s commitment to educating drivers, particularly those of commercial buses, about the grave risks associated with overspeeding. He also extended his condolences to the families of the deceased.
Additionally, the accident scene was attended by various emergency responders, including the LASEMA Response Unit, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and officers from the Iponri Divisional Police Station.
