Damian Okoligwe, a 400-level student of Petrochemical Engineering at the University of Port Harcourt, has been remanded in the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre.
He faces allegations of murdering his ex-girlfriend, Justina Otuene, a 300-level student in the Biochemistry Department at the same university.
During yesterday’s court proceedings, the prosecuting counsel urged the Magistrate Court to remand Okoligwe due to the seriousness of the offense. The defense counsel, O.G Nweke, did not oppose this request.

Magistrate Nnenda Obiageri-Onugbum, presiding over the case, ruled in favor of remanding Okoligwe in the Port Harcourt correctional facility. Additionally, the Magistrate ordered that the case file be forwarded to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal guidance.
The next hearing for the DPP report has been scheduled for December 15th, 2023.
