According to recent reports, Arsenal is reportedly preparing a bid of €50m to secure the services of Barcelona forward Ansu Fati.
Barcelona is open to the idea of selling Fati this summer due to their financial situation and the need to generate funds for other transfers desired by new manager Xavi. Although Fati exhibited promise by scoring three goals in the season’s final two La Liga matches, overall, it was a disappointing campaign for the 20-year-old.
The situation at Barcelona has reached a point where they have reportedly presented Fati with a request during a recent meeting: “either he leaves or he doesn’t play” in the upcoming season. In light of this development, Arsenal has emerged as a potential destination, with the Gunners willing to table a bid of €50m. Moreover, Arsenal is prepared to accommodate Fati’s significant salary demands.

However, it appears that Joan Laporta, the Barcelona president, is unwilling to accept the initial offer from Arsenal. Laporta aims to maximize the potential transfer fee, seeking a figure closer to €80m. Negotiations could potentially settle around the €65m mark.
Another option Barcelona considers is including an Arsenal player in the deal. The Catalan giants have expressed interest in Gabriel Martinelli, praising his talents despite acknowledging his inconsistent performances. On the other hand, Martin Odegaard is viewed as “non-transferable” by Barcelona.
Arsenal recognizes the need to strengthen their squad during the summer transfer window to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title in the upcoming season. Former Arsenal captain Tony Adams has expressed his thoughts on the team’s recent achievements and the challenges they may face going forward.

Adams commended manager Mikel Arteta for guiding the Gunners to a second-place finish despite the squad’s limitations. However, Adams also cautioned that when expectations are raised significantly but not met in subsequent seasons, fallout often occurs, leading to managerial changes.
“Mikel Arteta worked wonders to get Arsenal into second place considering the players he had at his disposal,” Adams told The Sun.
“But when a manager has massively over-performed and raised a club’s expectations so high, there’s often a fallout if the level of improvement isn’t maintained the following season.
“And when that happens, he’s often gone by Christmas.”

While Adams does not suggest that Arteta will be replaced, he believes that Arsenal may have reached their peak this season and could struggle to replicate the same level of success.
“I am not for one minute suggesting that the Gunners are going to be getting rid of Arteta, but I do fear that this could be as good as it gets for them. No one expected them to finish so high, but the downside to all that is where do they go from here?” he said.
“I hate to sound like a prophet of doom, but I do believe that a lot of this team has already peaked. It was possibly the best season that many of them will ever have. I don’t think they’ll get to that level again.

“They’re definitely not going to challenge Manchester City next season, and without serious recruitment this summer, it will be a struggle for them to finish runners-up again.
“City’s B team is better than any other Premier League side, and we know that Newcastle, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea will all be much stronger next time out.”
