Bayern Munich and Manchester City are currently engaged in discussions regarding the potential transfer of defender Kyle Walker, according to reports.
The 33-year-old has enjoyed a successful six-year tenure at the Etihad Stadium, securing 14 trophies, including five Premier League titles, four EFL Cups, two FA Cups, two Community Shields, and the coveted Champions League title.
Throughout his time at Manchester City, Walker has made 254 appearances across various competitions. He played a significant role during the treble-winning 2022-23 season, starting in 31 out of 39 matches. Although he experienced a brief period on the sidelines due to a decision by manager Pep Guardiola, he later reclaimed his starting position and featured in 11 of City’s final 13 games.

However, during the recent Champions League final against Inter Milan, Walker was surprisingly absent from Guardiola’s first-choice lineup. He eventually made a substitute appearance for the last eight minutes of the match.
As Walker’s contract has only one year remaining, The Athletic reports a high likelihood of his departure from Manchester City this summer. The player is eager to secure assurances regarding his playing time, particularly in light of his aspirations to represent England in the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament.
According to the same report, Walker is currently in talks with Bayern Munich, the perennial Bundesliga champions managed by Thomas Tuchel. Although the deal has yet to reach an advanced stage, both clubs are expected to encounter little difficulty reaching an agreement on the transfer fee.

Bayern’s interest in Walker intensified after they decided against pursuing a permanent move for Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo, who spent the second half of the 2022-23 season on loan with the German club. Cancelo, who made 21 appearances, including 15 starts for Bayern, is now set to return to Manchester City, where his future remains uncertain.
There are rumors of potential departures among Bayern’s other full-backs, with Benjamin Pavard expressing a desire to seek new opportunities after four seasons in Bavaria. Additionally, Lucas Hernandez has been linked with a possible lucrative move back to his home country, where he could join Paris Saint-Germain, the reigning Ligue 1 champions.

Should Walker complete a move to Bayern Munich, it remains to be seen whether Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will seek to recruit a new right-sided defender. John Stones, Manuel Akanji, and 18-year-old Rico Lewis are among the options who have vied for regular starts alongside Walker throughout the 2022-23 season. However, Manchester City is actively looking to strengthen their options on the left side of the defense.
Recent reports indicate that the treble-winning side is making positive progress in negotiations to secure the signing of RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol.
