Lionel Messi‘s eagerly anticipated move to MLS next month has hit a roadblock as Inter Miami’s forward, Corentin Jean, has suffered a ruptured ACL, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.
During Saturday’s league matchup against the New England Revolution, Corentin Jean, the 27-year-old French striker, started the game but suffered a serious injury that brought the match to a halt.
Inter Miami subsequently confirmed the severity of the injury in a statement released on Wednesday morning. With Jean sidelined for the rest of the season due to the ruptured ACL, Messi will have to seek another striking partner upon his arrival in Florida.
Inter Miami’s struggles in the MLS have been evident, with the team experiencing their 12th loss of the season out of 17 matches against the New England Revolution. Sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings, two points adrift, the absence of Jean poses a significant challenge for the team.
Without a potential strike partner for Messi, Inter Miami’s chances of improving their position and achieving success may be further diminished.
In response to Corentin Jean’s injury, Interim Miami head coach Javier Morales expressed his support for the player, stating, “We’re devastated for Coco, but we are all behind him on his road to recovery. We know he’ll come back stronger than ever, and we’ll do our part to help him through it.”
As Inter Miami deals with the absence of Jean and awaits the debut of Lionel Messi, set to take place on July 21, their immediate focus will be on their upcoming match against the Philadelphia Union on June 24.
With a seven-game winless streak weighing them down, Inter Miami will strive to secure their first league victory, despite the challenges posed by the absence of a potential strike partner for Messi.
