Abdulazeez Adegbola, widely known as Tani Olohun, a devotee of traditional religion, is facing fresh legal challenges.
Tani Olohun has been hit with three new defamation charges filed by an Islamic Cleric, Alfa Labeeb Lagbaji, in another Kwara Magistrates Court session held in Ilorin, the state capital.
Tani Olohun, who was brought to court from the Federal Correctional Service facility in Okekura, Ilorin, was accused of threatening the peace of the community, criminal defamation, and blackmail against Lagbaji. The charges were brought forward by Mr. Taofiq Olateju, the legal representative of Labeeb.
According to Olateju, Tani Olohun allegedly used social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube to blackmail and defame Labeeb. He claimed that Tani Olohun published false information on social media, accusing Labeeb of taking advantage of a mentally ill woman brought to him for healing and engaging in inappropriate activities with her in an unfinished building.

“This publication gave a bad name and defamed the image of Alfa Labeeb Lagbaji whom I know is from a good home and had a good reputation for himself among the people and his followers and other Islamic religion adherents in Ilorin, Kwara state, Nigeria, and all over the world,” stated the legal suit.
Olateju has requested the court to convict Tani Olohun on the three charges filed against him.
During the court hearing, Tani Olohun pleaded not guilty to the charges. He expressed surprise at the case and appeared in court without legal representation. The presiding judge, Mr. Mohammed Adam, advised Tani Olohun to hire legal counsel for his defense before the next court date.
The case has been adjourned for further proceedings on November 14, 2023.
It is worth noting that Tani Olohun is already facing a similar criminal defamation case at the Chief Magistrate Court, presided over by Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim and another at the Kwara State Upper Area Court, under the jurisdiction of Mr. Sunday Adeniyi.
While he was granted bail by the Upper Area Court, he was denied bail by the Chief Magistrate Court.
