Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has criticized owner Todd Boehly’s transfer policy and its effect on the team’s poor performance.
In an interview with TNT Sports Brazil, Silva said he believes that Boehly’s strategy is partly to blame for the team’s poor performance, including a 4-0 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Silva’s comments come as Chelsea languish in 11th place in the Premier League table and out of contention for next year’s Champions League.
Boehly has been accused of trying to buy success with a £600 million spending spree last summer and in January and has already sacked managers Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter.
Silva called for a new strategy to be put in place to avoid making the same mistakes next season but emphasized that players also need to take responsibility for the team’s performance.

Despite the recent managerial changes, Silva believes the team needs to focus on what has been done wrong and work to change it.
“We can’t be blaming the managers if we don’t take responsibility,” Silva said.
“It’s a hard period for the club, with a lot of indecision. Change of ownership, new players arriving – we had to increase the size of the changing room because it didn’t fit the size of the squad. A positive point is that there are amazing players in the squad, but on the other hand, there are always players that are going to be unhappy.”
Silva highlighted the difficulty of squad selection and that not everyone can play, adding that the team needs to stop and put a strategy in place.

He cautioned that a new manager might not have the required impact and called on players to take responsibility for their performance.
“We have had three managers this season, plus a fourth with Bruno where we failed to win. We have lost today, and with Lampard, we have failed to win.
“Everybody is talking about the manager but we must look at what has been done wrong and try to change,” Silva said.
With Chelsea looking to salvage their season, it remains to be seen whether Boehly will heed Silva’s advice and implement a new strategy moving forward.
