Gunmen have reportedly abducted three family members in the Greenland community of the Ajaokuta Local Government Area in Kogi State.
The Live News reports that the incident occurred on Monday, June 5, 2023, at approximately 9 pm when armed men invaded the community behind the 500 Housing Estate in Ganaja. The attackers arrived in a Sienna vehicle and began shooting indiscriminately. They primarily targeted a retired security officer. An eyewitness, who preferred to remain anonymous due to fear of reprisal, provided these details.

Paul Atabor, the Chairman of the Greenland community, confirmed the incident and stated that he reported it to both the ‘C’ Division of the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services. Disturbingly, the community received a notice from the suspected kidnappers the following morning, indicating their intention to return and abduct more residents. The message in the letter received by the community read, “Greenland community, get ready for us; we are coming to get someone.”

A family member of the kidnapped victims revealed that the abductors had contacted the family demanding a ransom. However, the source did not disclose the exact amount demanded by the kidnappers.
SP William Aya, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, said that the command headquarters had not received a briefing on the incident. He confirmed that he would provide further information once he received detailed reports from the Divisional Police Officer of the ‘C’ Division. However, as of the time of this report, no additional information had been received.
