Manchester United is actively exploring the possibility of loaning out Mason Greenwood for the 2023-24 season as the club continues its internal investigation into the talented winger.
The Live News reports that the decision comes after charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault against Greenwood were dropped in February.
Since his suspension on January 30, 2022, Greenwood, now 21 years old, has not appeared for Manchester United. According to reports, the Red Devils are seeking a suitable European club to facilitate the temporary transfer of the English international.
Given his skillset and potential, the Italian Serie A, Spanish La Liga, and the Turkish Super Lig are among the most probable destinations for Greenwood. Although offers from Super Lig clubs have already emerged, it is believed that Greenwood may aspire to play at a higher level, which has sparked interest from Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan in recent reports.
However, teams in Italy and Spain might be apprehensive about the public perception of signing the forward, considering the controversy surrounding him. Despite the legal case being discontinued due to the withdrawal of key witnesses and the Crown Prosecution Service acknowledging that there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction, concerns over optics remain.
As of now, Mason Greenwood has two years remaining on his contract with Manchester United. Nonetheless, the club could consider terminating his deal if they determine that his actions have brought disrepute to the club.
